conscirpted to the loudness wars?

goooood remix. sounds like its quite overcompressed beyond that push pull effect. you didnt use a one of those mastering suite presets did you?

i'm listening on laptop speakers though so that might be the problem :) good remix otherwise.

ilovereason responds:

Thanks, never use mastering presets (can't really...)

very nice

i feel like an asshole for critiquing something so heartfelt but i think this would have been a bit more interesting to listen to with a larger range in terms of both dynamics and pitch (this last bit is a welcome change).

There's a part after the triplets in the left hand that sort of gets lost and sounds a bit messy. for one take though thats acceptable and the fact that this is all on the fly is quite a feat. i'd like to transcribe this myself, maybe :)

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Hey your not an asshole... critique is perfectly acceptable. I mean I could have gone through the midi score and digitally fixed all the errors in a matter of minutes... but I really really don't like doing that... it's just a peeve.

As for the range and dynamics... thats the price I pay for doing it with my eyes closed. Moving up and down a keyboard is considerably harder in that respect... but your right... it sure could use more range... I'll note that for future piano pieces.

Transcribe away btw... I won't be able to read it but someone else might.

Take care and thanks for the review.

wow

its two notes in a preset with a phaser and delay effect. amazing.

Xurch responds:

lmao

huh...

bitcrushing on everything? i kinda see what you were trying to do but i think the drums could have done without it, y'know to give it a bit of light and shade.

armoboy12 responds:

i guess so.
Anyways i was just messing around on garageband, but criticism is always good.

THANKS!!

arghgfsd

high pitched lines are way too loud and the excess reverb is flatlining your track's dynamics

methinks you compressed the master channel too much :S

DreamEater responds:

me thinks differently ^^

its coo

i like what you're doing with the melodic structure. the kick drum sound is VERY floppy sounding and not at all suited to this imo, i think a tighter and punchier sample would be nicer. someone else said the timbale fill is kind of obnoxious, i suggest bringing the volume of that sample back quite a bit instead of just removing it.

its a bit repetitive, like a loop of sorts. and its not REAAALLY dnb either. but nice jazzy mario feel which i totally dig. FL studio wins :)

Nav responds:

Haha, thanks for the advice! :)

argh

way too busy, i'm sure you have a bunch of things that sound really good on their own but together they make for uncomfortable listening.

Seeing as you're using FL, you should export with the "wrap remainder" or "cut remainder" option so it loops properly instead of trailing off with any reverb or delay effects.

Lolzer responds:

ok thx for your opinion and thx for the score and review :)

sweet

pad and piano layer is really nice. high pass filtered breakbeat at the end takes a bit too long to fade it out imo. I think you could've done a bit more with the breakcore section but its not a big deal. sometimes less is more and i tend to lean to the "more" side too often with my drum programming :P

nubbinownz responds:

hehe i know what you're talking about with the highpassed break at the end i actually cut it way sooner on the final version.

Hey now.

It's a nice score. I think the delay effect on the piano was completely and makes it sound like a cheesy mid 90's house tune.

I think you really could've built upon the theme a bit more. The horns do a good job of bringing melodic variation. The end doesn't really reflect suicide at all imo (finishing on a major chord in a minor scale will do that though). A different, more sinister final chord would have been nice. I would suggest AbMaj7/C (Ab Major 7th with C on bass) seeing as your tune is in C minor, but try others.

SolusLunes responds:

It's not suicide at all- it's him coming to terms with his execution.

He's not killing himself, he's being executed. So that's why it ends on a happy note.

pretty smooth

Very slick arrangement. The claps and shakers are a good touch.

Man, I wanna go play Just Cause now :S

linkbryan1126 responds:

idk why, but everytime i heard this song as a kid i just thought, it needs to be latin, and now that i had a chance to i went for it, thanks for the review

used to put a lot of music on here and then i stopped but maybe i will start doing that again one day hehe
